Gone

I’m out of here until late next week.

Heading to Los Angeles on a work trip to visit shops and attend Single Speed Cross Worlds, then a little multi day ride with Prolls and Kyle.

I likely won’t be able to update this blog, but perhaps Mark and B. will hook you up with some fresh content in my stead.  I will be updating the All-City Facebook, Instagram, and  blog every chance I get.  So if you’re bored, check those.

Weirdos

IMG_0300
just look at it all: re-purposed pedal reflectors, reflector on a carbiner, custom pulls, knives, dinosaurs,  etc

One of the things I like most about making my home in the cycling world are the weirdos. The 1000 yard stare end of the roaders, the basement MacGuyvers, the burnouts, the survivalists, etc etc.

One such gent whom I’ve sort of become acquainted with is the man who owns this setup. Now he’s not particularly creepy or anything, but one look and you know dude’s weird as fuck. (notice, I don’t use weird as a perjorative term, everyone I associate with is pretty much weird)

He rides a sweet 80’s Gary Fisher, always has a pannier, and those work clogs that every server in Minneapolis wears. He’s at the dog park almost everyday, and is the one who builds those little cairns and arches out of the rocks on shore.

I usually avoid him, not because he’s intimidating, but because I have no need for what is sure to be an awkward exchange with a stranger.

Well, the other day I noticed his sweet little hand made toe clip covers, and asked to take a few pics. He obliged. So here they are.

Here’s to weird people riding bikes, and taking the time to custom make their own shit.

Shine on you crazy diamonds.

Levi’s Trucker Jacket Review

IMG_1811
I’ve been meaning to write a review of the Levis Commuter Trucker Jacket since June when I first received it, but up until September I wasn’t really using it.  As you know I have all kinds of ridiculous insecurities about wearing casual bike clothing, as I’ve often mentioned, and right away Joshy started in on me. I did however bring it on our annual Vilas Co. trip, as I was very excited to now own the proper garment for getting shit bombed around a campfire and sleeping in the dirt. Past that though, didn’t really touch it all Summer. It was hot, and you know, I felt corny.

Come Fall though, ol’ Souphorse the jean jacket fairy came to town for the local launch of the line, sprinkled his magic here and there and suddenly we were the fucking Jets. Denim Demons everywhere. A Legion of Goons.

The best thing I can say about this jacket is that every time I put it on I get the notion that I wouldn’t mind a frenzy, a scramble, a tussle. 10 foot tall and badd as the day is long.  The shoulders are cut perfectly for riding with extra long sleeves, and the pockets are super usable, especially the side ones.

Pros
everyone should own a jean jacket
riding cut
tough feelings

Cons
material is thin, jacket is really more of a shell
josh might make fun of you
not as metal as a regular jean jacket

Overall
I’m way into it, and can’t wait to wear holes in the elbows, never wash it, and live my Outsiders fantasies.

P.S. want to start a gang with me called the Legion of Goons?

Kim’s Def Wish

I just posted this bike up on the AC Blog, but had to post it here as well, because it’s just so damn good.

Kim’s a Bike Jerks and AC customer out of Finland, and this build represents the other side of the coin in terms of what you can do with a fixed freestyle bike.

These things make rad all arounders and are great for off road use.
