1995 Rivendell Mountain Bike
Here's the latest out of the workshop, a real rarity. A 1995 Rivendell Mountain Bike from the brand's earliest days.
I acquired this earlier this year and had to purchase a package of three Rivendells to get it. This, to me, was the big prize and strangely enough the previous owner felt it was the least valuable of the lot which also contained first batch examples of the Atlantis and Rambouillet made in Japan models.
It is not known exactly how many of the mtb's were ever made, but according to Richard Schwinn "less than twelve" as they were not popular and nearly everyone just bought the All-Arounder. When I asked him about the serial number of mine he simply said that it was a "sample."
The frame is built from Reynolds 753 with the fork blades being 531 and was made at Waterford.
I ended up stripping the previous build to sell off the parts to help cover the costs of purchase and largely swapped the build kit from my X0-1 over to this frameset. As I plan on using it with a stem mount child carrier I had to find a stem with a long enough quill for the mount and bars wide enough to wrap around the child seat.
I think it turned out swell. Hope you dig it.
